Christ foretells the destruction of the temple. Persecutions, wars. The preaching of the Gospel. He commands to be watchful.

1 And as Jesus was coming out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look what stones and what buildings they are!” 2 Jesus answered him and said, “Do you see all those buildings? Truly I tell you, not one stone will be left here upon another. all of it will be torn down.” 3 And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately. 4 “Tell us, when will that be, and what sign will there be when all these things are about to be fulfilled?” 5 Jesus answered and said to them, “Be careful that no one leads you astray, 6 For many will come in My name and say, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 7 When you hear the sounds of wars and reports of wars, do not be troubled, because all that must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. In various places there will be earthquakes, famines, plagues, and unrest. These are the beginning of pains. 9 They will also hand you over to courts, and you will be beaten in synagogues. because of Me you will stand before governors and kings, to bear witness to them and to all the Gentiles. 10 But first the Gospel must be preached to all nations. 11 And when they take you to court to hand you over, do not worry beforehand and do not think about what you should say, but whatever is given to you in that hour, speak that, because it is not you who will speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 Brother will hand brother over to death, and a father his child, and children will rise up against their parents and kill them. 13 And because of My name everyone will hate you. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” 14 “When you see the ‘abomination of desolation’ standing where it should not be (let the one who reads understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Whoever is on the roof, let him not go down or enter the house to take anything out of his house, 16 and whoever is in the field must not turn back to take his cloak. 17 But woe to those who are pregnant and to nursing mothers in those days. 18 Pray that your flight may not be in winter. 19 Those days will be days of such tribulation as has never happened from the beginning of creation until now, and will never happen again. 20 And if the Lord had not shortened those days for the sake of His chosen ones, no flesh would be saved. but for the sake of the chosen ones whom He chose, He shortened those days. 21 Then if anyone says to you, “Look, Christ is here,” or “Look, He is there,” do not believe it. 22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and will show signs and wonders, with the aim of deceiving, if possible, even the elect. 23 But you be on guard. now, I have told you everything beforehand.” 24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light. 25 And the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers that are in heaven will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds (Dan. 7:13) with power and great glory. 27 Then he will send his angels and will gather his chosen ones from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.” 28 “But learn the lesson from the fig tree: when its branches gradually become tender and put out leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 Likewise you also, when you see all these things happening, know that the Son of Man is near, at the doors. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” 32 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be watchful, stay awake, and pray, because you do not know when the time is. 34 It will be like a situation where a man, going to another country, leaves his house and gives authority to his servants, to each one his work, and commands the doorkeeper also to stay awake. 35 Therefore stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house will come: in the evening, or at midnight, or at the rooster’s crowing, or in the morning. 36 So that he does not come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you, I say to all: “Stay awake.”
