“When you see the ‘abomination of desolation’ standing where it should not be (let the one who reads understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
This saying refers to that dreadful sign which was to precede the destruction of Jerusalem. The expression “abomination of desolation” recalls Daniel’s prophecy and points to the defilement of the holy place and the nearness of judgment.
