• Chapter 1 — The ministry of John the Baptist. The baptism and temptation of Christ. He preaches and calls Peter, Andrew, James, and John. He performs healings
• Chapter 2 — Christ heals a paralytic. Calls sinners to repentance. Explains and justifies the conduct of His disciples regarding fasting and the Sabbath day
• Chapter 3 — Christ performs healings on the Sabbath. He chooses the twelve apostles, refutes the scribes’ false accusations. He declares who His brothers and sisters and mother are.
• Chapter 4 — The parables of the sower, the seed growing secretly, and the mustard seed. Christ calms the storm on the sea.
• Chapter 5 — Christ heals the man who had a legion and the woman suffering from bleeding, and raises Jairus’s daughter.
• Chapter 6 — The people of His hometown reject Christ. He gives His disciples authority to cast out demons. They think that He is John the Baptist, who has risen from the dead. The miracle of the five loaves and two fish. Christ walks on the lake and heals many sick people.
• Chapter 7 — Christ condemns the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, because by keeping traditions they dishonor the commandments of God. He heals the daughter of the Syrophoenician woman, as well as a deaf and mute man.
• Chapter 8 — Christ miraculously feeds the people. He warns His disciples to stay away from the leaven of the Pharisees and the Herodians. He opens the eyes of a blind man. He declares that He Himself is the Christ, and that He must suffer and rise again. He rebukes Peter. He exhorts the disciples to endure when persecuted for the Gospel.
• Chapter 9 — The Transfiguration of Christ. He speaks about the coming of Elijah. The healing of a demon-possessed boy. He foretells His death and resurrection. Teachings about humility and stumbling blocks.
• Chapter 10 — Christ’s teaching about divorce and the salvation of children. The danger of wealth. Christ foretells His sufferings, death, and resurrection. The ambition of two disciples. Christ opens the eyes of blind Bartimaeus.
• Chapter 11 — Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The cursing of the fruitless fig tree. The cleansing of the temple. Teaching about faith, prayer, and forgiveness. The question of Christ’s authority.
• Chapter 12 — The parable of the wicked tenants. The parable of the vineyard workers. The tax to be given to Caesar. The Sadducees’ error about the resurrection. The greatest commandment. David acknowledges the Messiah as his Lord. Christ warns the people about the scribes. The poor widow who gives two small coins.
• Chapter 13 — Christ foretells the destruction of the temple. Persecutions, wars. The preaching of the Gospel. He commands to be watchful.
• Chapter 14 — Christ is anointed by a woman. After the Passover supper He establishes Communion. He foretells beforehand that His disciples will be scattered. By Judas’s betrayal Christ is arrested in the garden and is taken to trial. Peter’s denial.
• Chapter 15 — The accusation brought against Christ, His condemnation, suffering, crucifixion, death, and burial.
• Chapter 16 — The resurrection of Jesus, His appearing again, and His ascension.
