The Transfiguration of Christ. He speaks about the coming of Elijah. The healing of a demon-possessed boy. He foretells His death and resurrection. Teachings about humility and stumbling blocks.

1 And He was saying to them, “Truly I tell you that some of those standing here will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God having come with power”. 2 And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And there He was transfigured before them. 3 And His garments became shining, exceedingly white, such that no launderer on earth can whiten them so much. 4 And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter began to speak and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us build three tents: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 For he did not know what he was saying, because they were terrified. 7 And a cloud covered them. A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. listen to Him.” 8 And suddenly, looking around them, they saw no one with them anymore except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, He commanded them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 10 They kept this word in their minds, discussing with one another what it means to rise from the dead. 11 And they asked Him, saying, “What does it mean that the scribes say Elijah must come first?” 12 He answered and said to them, “Truly, Elijah comes first and sets everything in order. Then why is it written in the Holy Scriptures about the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be despised?” 13 But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him.” 14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and the scribes arguing with them. 15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw Jesus, were astonished, and running up to Him, they greeted Him. 16 And He asked them, “What were you arguing about with them?” 17 And one from the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought my son to You, who has a mute spirit in him 18 and wherever it happens, it throws him to the ground. My son foams, grinds his teeth, and then becomes rigid. I told Your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.” 19 Jesus answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you, how long will I put up with you? Bring him to Me.” 20 And they brought him to Jesus. When the spirit saw Him, it immediately convulsed the boy. And he fell to the ground and began to roll around and foam. 21 And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood.” 22 And many times the spirit has thrown him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if You can do anything, Lord, have mercy and help us.” 23 Jesus said to him, “You said, ‘If You can.’ Everything is possible for the one who believes.” 24 And immediately the boy’s father cried out and said with tears, “I believe, Lord. help my unbelief.” 25 When Jesus saw that the crowd was gathering around, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Mute and deaf spirit, I command you: come out of him and never enter into him again.” 26 The unclean spirit cried out, shook him violently, and came out. The boy became like a dead man, so that many said that he died. 27 Jesus took him by the hand, raised him up, and he stood on his feet. 28 When Jesus entered the house, the disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 Jesus said to them, “That kind of spirit does not come out in any other way except by fasting and prayer.” 30 They left from there and were passing through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know, 31 for He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man will be handed over into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and when He is killed, on the third day He will rise again.” 32 But they did not understand that word, and they were afraid to ask Him. 33 And they came to Capernaum. And when He entered the house, He asked the disciples, “What were you arguing about with one another on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, because on the way they had been arguing with one another about who is the greatest. 35 When He sat down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And taking a child, He set him in their midst, and taking him in His arms, He said to them. 37 “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.” 38 John addressed Jesus and said, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, but he does not travel with us, and we forbade him.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, because there is no one who will do a mighty work in My name and be able to speak evil of Me. 40 for the one who is not against us is for us.” 41 Whoever gives you a cup of water because you belong to Christ, truly I tell you, he will not lose his reward. 42 And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a great millstone were tied around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you, because it is better for you to enter eternal life maimed than to have two hands and go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. 44 There their worm that eats them does not die, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter eternal life lame than, having two feet, to be thrown into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. 46 Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to be thrown into the fire of Gehenna. 48 Where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. 49 For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be salted with salt. 50 Salt is a good thing, but if the salt loses its flavor, with what will it be seasoned? Therefore, have salt in yourselves and live in peace with one another.”
