And He was saying to them, “Truly I tell you that some of those standing here will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God having come with power”.
This saying is directly connected with the previous teaching, when the Lord was speaking about the cross, discipleship, and the value of saving the soul. Here He declares that some of those listening to Him will, while still in their lifetime, see the powerful manifestation of the kingdom of God. This word is fulfilled first of all in the Transfiguration, when the chosen disciples saw the hidden glory of Christ. Yet it also has a broader meaning, connected with His resurrection, ascension, the coming of the Holy Spirit, and the spread of the Gospel. Thus the kingdom of God was presented not only as a reality of the future, but as an active divine authority that had already been revealed through Christ. This saying was meant to strengthen the disciples, so that they would not stumble because of the approaching cross, but would understand that after suffering, glory is opened.
