The cloud in Holy Scripture is often connected with the presence of God. In the wilderness the pillar of cloud led Israel (Exodus 13:21), on Sinai the cloud covered the divine revelation (Exodus 19:9), and now with the same kind of sacred sign the Father confirms the Son. The words “This is My beloved Son” reveal the unique and eternal sonship of Christ. He is not merely a chosen servant or an exalted prophet, but the beloved Son of God the Father. The command “Listen to Him” has decisive significance. The Law and the Prophets have their mission, but the final word belongs to the Son. Now people must no longer stop at the shadows when the truth has come. This voice is a call to believers of all ages to align their hearing with the voice of Christ, because apart from Him there is no true light and no saving way.
