The Lord deliberately avoids publicity, because now His main purpose is not to work miracles before the crowd, but to prepare the disciples. He is going toward those decisive hours in which the work of salvation must be accomplished. For this reason He wants to be free from outward noise, so that He may teach the disciples. This also shows that Christ’s work is never governed by human popularity or by a desire for glory. He knows His times and His priorities. Sometimes true ministry requires withdrawing from the noise of people, so that those who are to bear the witness of the Gospel may be formed in a deeper way.
