Here begins the father’s tragic testimony. He does not come as one arguing or criticizing, but as a suffering father. His words are simple and painful: he brought his son to Jesus, because there is his last hope. The expression “mute spirit” shows one of the forms of the evil spirit’s influence, by which the boy was deprived of the natural ability to express himself. This appeal of the father is very instructive: when human means are exhausted, faith brings him to Christ. The beginning of people’s salvation is when they bring their pain, their child, their inability before the Lord.
