Jesus took him by the hand, raised him up, and he stood on his feet.
This verse is at once simple and profound. The Lord not only commands the spirit to come out, but also takes the boy by the hand and raises him up. His authority overcomes evil with firmness, and His mercy restores the afflicted person with compassion. The boy’s standing up symbolizes not only physical healing, but also the beginning of a new life. Christ’s salvation always has these two sides: deliverance from evil and restoration into life. Many can speak against evil, but only the Lord is the One who can lift up the fallen person and restore him completely.
