And immediately all the crowd, when they saw Jesus, were astonished, and running up to Him, they greeted Him.
The people’s reaction shows that Jesus’ presence had a special impact on them. It is possible that some radiance still remained on His appearance after the glorious event on the mountain, although the Evangelist does not speak about it. But what is more important is that the people saw Him as the One who can resolve the matters before which they had stood powerless and had yielded to argument. The appearance of Christ in the midst of human disputes always changes the atmosphere. Where a person only becomes entangled, the Lord’s presence brings direction, light, and a solution. The people ran to greet Him because they sensed that with Him is the true answer.
