The Lord gives a visible example, because the image of children best reveals the qualities that are opposite to the disciples’ argument. In the eyes of society, a child has no strength, status, or authority. He depends on others, has no claim to worldly greatness, and is an image of natural humility. Christ sets him in their midst and embraces him, to show that the values of the heavenly kingdom are different from those of the world. What people often consider small and insignificant, the Lord takes into His arms and honors by His own example.
