Christ miraculously feeds the people. He warns His disciples to stay away from the leaven of the Pharisees and the Herodians. He opens the eyes of a blind man. He declares that He Himself is the Christ, and that He must suffer and rise again. He rebukes Peter. He exhorts the disciples to endure when persecuted for the Gospel.

1 In those days again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat. Jesus called the disciples to Himself and said. 2 “My heart aches for this people, because here they have been with Me for three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them to their homes hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come from far away.” 4 The disciples answered Him, “In this wilderness, where can anyone get bread to satisfy them?” 5 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” 6 Jesus commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then, taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks to God, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to distribute. And they distributed them to the crowd. 7 They also had a few small fish. Jesus blessed them as well and commanded them to be distributed. 8 And they ate and were satisfied. Then they gathered seven baskets of leftover pieces. 9 Then Jesus dismissed them. Those who ate were about four thousand people. 10 And immediately, getting into the boat with His disciples, He came to the region of Dalmanutha. 11 The Pharisees came and began to argue with Jesus. Testing Him, they were asking Him for a sign from heaven. 12 And He sighed deeply from the depths of His soul and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.” 13 And leaving them, He again got into the boat and went to the other side of the lake. 14 The disciples had forgotten to take bread, and in the boat they had with them only one loaf. 15 Jesus commanded them and said, “Watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of the Herodians.” 16 They were reasoning among themselves and saying, “He says this because we have no bread.” 17 Jesus knew their thought and said, “You of little faith, why do you reason in your heart that you have no bread? Do you still not understand and not remember? Is your heart so hardened?” 18 Do you have eyes and not see, do you have ears and not hear, and still do you not understand? Do you not remember, 19 When five thousand people were fed with five loaves, how many baskets full of pieces did you gather?” They answered Him, “Twelve.” 20 “And when the four thousand were fed with seven loaves, how many baskets full of pieces did you gather up?” They answered, “Seven.” 21 And He said to them, “Then how do you not understand?” 22 They came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to Jesus Christ and begged Him to touch him. 23 Jesus, taking the blind man by the hand, led him out of the village, moistened his eyes with saliva, and laid His hand on him. And He was asking the blind man whether he saw anything. 24 He opened his eyes and said, “I see people, for they are walking like trees.” 25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes. The blind man opened his eyes and was looking, was healed, and saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him to his house and said, “Do not enter the village, but go to your house, and when you enter the village, tell no one there.” 27 Then Jesus went with His disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 They answered and said, “Some say John the Baptist. others say Elijah. and still others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He said to them, “But you, what do you say about Me, who am I?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And Jesus strictly commanded them to tell no one about Him. 31 Then Jesus began to teach the disciples that the Son of Man must suffer many things, be rejected by the elders, the High Priest, and the scribes, be killed, and rise again on the third day. 32 Jesus spoke these things openly. Peter, taking Him aside, began to rebuke Him. 33 But Jesus turned around, saw the disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind Me, Satan, because you are not thinking about what God is doing, but about what people are doing.” 34 And calling the crowd together with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and come after Me. 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of the Gospel will save it. 36 What benefit is it if a man gains the whole world, but loses his life? 37 For what can a man give in exchange for his life? 38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father and of the holy angels.”
