And He said to them, “But you, what do you say about Me, who am I?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
Here the conversation reaches the most important point. For Christ, what is decisive is not the opinion of the crowd, but the disciples’ personal confession of faith. The question, “But you, what do you say about Me?” always stands before every person, because salvation is determined not by what one has heard, but by personal acceptance. Peter’s confession, “You are the Christ,” is a great and true testimony. He declares that Jesus is the promised Messiah, God’s Anointed Savior. Although this confession had not yet been fully revealed in the light of the cross and the resurrection, it was nevertheless a true foundation. This is the cornerstone of faith: to know Jesus not merely as a teacher or a prophet, but as the Lord’s Anointed and Savior. This confession is not born only from human thought, but through God’s working, and it becomes the door by which a person enters into deeper knowledge.
