The second touch brings complete restoration. Here again the patient and thorough healing work of Christ is seen. He does not leave a person half-healed, but brings him to fullness. This is a great comfort in a spiritual sense: the Lord does not begin a work that He will not finish. If a person still sees dimly, he should not despair, but wait for Christ’s new touch, new illumination, and new deepening. The phrase “he saw everything clearly” shows not only physical health, but also an accuracy that had previously been lacking. In spiritual life, it is not enough simply to see; one must also see rightly. Christ is the One who turns dim perception into clear understanding. This verse reveals that divine grace works with patience and is directed toward restoring wholeness both of body and of soul.
