This verse simply presents the situation in which the disciples had forgotten to take bread and had only one loaf with them. Their attitude toward this circumstance is fully revealed in the following verses, where Jesus’ command and their lack of faith become evident. At the same time, this episode reminds us that even in scarcity they were with Christ, and true security is found not in the amount one has, but in His presence.
