This saying is a continuation of the previous question and deepens its sobering force even more. When a person loses his life, he no longer has anything by which he can bring it back. In the world many things can be exchanged or restored, but the loss of the soul lies beyond the limits of all human means. This shows the irreplaceable value of a person’s life and the seriousness of the choice. While a person lives, the way of repentance and turning to God is open before him, but if he neglects it, then nothing gained afterward can compensate for that loss.
