Jesus sent him to his house and said, “Do not enter the village, but go to your house, and when you enter the village, tell no one there.”
This command again shows Christ’s humility and that He was not seeking a showy fame. He does not make the healing a matter of public commotion, but sends the man away in peace. This may also be connected with the people’s spiritual condition, when they were seeking a miracle without repentance. The Lord does not want His works to become an object of useless admiration for those people who will not accept their message. On the other hand, for the one who was healed this was a test of obedience: the mercy he had received was to be confirmed in his life through obedience. This verse reminds us that God’s works in a person’s life do not always need to be made public; there are gifts that must be kept in humility. More important than speaking about the grace received is to live a life worthy of that grace, remaining faithful to the Lord.
