Christ performs healings on the Sabbath. He chooses the twelve apostles, refutes the scribes’ false accusations. He declares who His brothers and sisters and mother are.

1 Jesus entered the synagogue again. There was a man there whose hand was withered. 2 And they were watching Jesus closely to see whether He would heal the man on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. 3 And He said to the man whose hand was withered, “Get up, stand in the middle.” 4 And He said to them, “On the Sabbath day what is permitted: to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to hand it over to destruction?” But they were silent. 5 Then Jesus looked at them with anger, grieved at the blindness of their heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. 6 And the Pharisees immediately went out and took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how they might put Him to death. 7 And Jesus went with His disciples to the lakeshore. A great crowd from Galilee was following Him, and also from Judea, 8 From Jerusalem, from the other side of the Jordan, and also those who were from the region around Tyre and Sidon. A great crowd was coming to Him when it heard how many things He was doing. 9 And He told the disciples to keep a small boat ready for Him because of the crowd, so that the people would not press in on Him. 10 For He had healed many, so that all who had any affliction were pressing in on Him, just to touch Him. 11 And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And He strictly commanded them not to make His identity known. 13 And He went up the mountain and called to Himself those whom He wanted, and they came to Him. 14 And He appointed twelve, so that they might be with Him and so that He might send them out to preach. 15 And that they might have authority to heal diseases and to cast out demons. 16 And He gave Simon the name Peter. 17 He also chose James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, and He called them Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder. 18 as well as Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew the tax collector, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananaean 19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. 20 They returned home, and the crowd came together again, so that they did not even have time to eat bread. 21 And when His own people heard, they went out to seize Him, because they thought that He had gone out of His mind. 22 And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He has Beelzebul in Him,” and, “By the ruler of demons He casts out demons.” 23 And calling them to Himself, He said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan rises up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand. his end has come. 27 No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man, and then he will plunder his house. 28 Truly I tell you that all sins and blasphemies will be forgiven to the sons of men, however much they may blaspheme. 29 But whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness forever, but remains guilty of an eternal sin.” 30 Jesus said this because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit in Him.” 31 And His mother and brothers came, and standing outside, they sent someone to call Him. 32 And the crowd was sitting around Him. And they said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.” 33 And He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or who are My brothers?” 34 And looking around at those sitting around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers. 35 For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”
