For He had healed many, so that all who had any affliction were pressing in on Him, just to touch Him.
This verse presents a powerful picture of the people’s suffering and Christ’s power. He had healed many, and for that reason the sick were pressing in, longing even to touch Him. Here we see how human desperation is mingled with a certain form of faith. They sensed that there was such power in Jesus that even being near Him could change life. Their faith may not yet have been mature and fully conscious, but the thought driving them toward Jesus was clear: their healing is in Him. This reminds us that even today, people who come to Christ do not always take the first step with full understanding. Many come out of pain, out of need, even with mixed feelings. But when their path is truly toward Him, the Lord often makes even that first, imperfect approach the beginning of blessing. At the same time, this scene shows how great human misery was, and how abundant Christ’s healing mercy was.
