Mark 3:28

Truly I tell you that all sins and blasphemies will be forgiven to the sons of men, however much they may blaspheme.

This verse opens a great door, namely, the door of God’s mercy. Christ proclaims that all sins and blasphemies will be forgiven to the sons of men. This is boundless comfort for a sinful person. There is no kind of sin for which God’s grace would, in principle, be insufficient, if a person comes with repentance and faith. Here the greatness and mercy of the Gospel are heard. God desires to forgive. He takes no pleasure in a person’s destruction, but rejoices in his turning back. Yet, as we will see next, right beside this word of great mercy there is also a grave warning, so that no one may abuse the idea of grace and think that he can with impunity despise the very Spirit who brings repentance.
