Mark 3:24

And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

This saying is a simple principle that every person can understand: division destroys any kingdom. By this, Christ shows that the scribes’ accusation has no logical basis. If Satan drives out his own powers and tears down his own work, that would mean his kingdom is in internal collapse. But the picture of the Gospel shows something entirely different. Here Christ, with authority and in a purposeful way, enters into the works of evil and destroys them. This is not Satan’s self-destruction, but the victorious presence of the kingdom of God. This saying also carries a broader truth for human life: a divided heart, a divided house, or a divided people cannot stand. Unity, especially on a true foundation, is necessary in order to remain standing.
