The accusation brought against Christ, His condemnation, suffering, crucifixion, death, and burial.

1 And immediately in the morning the chief priests, after consulting with the elders, the scribes, and the whole council, bound Jesus and led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate. 2 Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered and said to him, “You said it.” 3 The chief priests were bringing many accusations against Him, but Jesus was answering nothing. 4 Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You.” 5 But Jesus answered nothing further, so that Pilate was greatly amazed. 6 Now at the Passover feast Pilate would release to them one prisoner, whomever they requested. 7 There was a man named Barabbas, imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder during the uprising. 8 The crowd began to cry out loudly and demand that, according to his custom, Pilate release Barabbas for them. 9 Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he would release Barabbas for them instead. 12 Pilate answered them again and said, “Then what do you want me to do with the king of the Jews?” 13 And they, being stirred up by the chief priests, cried out again, “Crucify Him!” 14 Pilate said to them, “What evil thing has He done?” But they cried out more strongly, “Crucify Him!” 15 Pilate, wanting to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus flogged, handed Him over to be crucified. 16 The soldiers led Jesus inside the courtyard, which was the palace courtyard, and called together the whole cohort. 17 They clothed Jesus with a crimson robe and purple, and put on His head a crown made of thorns. 18 And they began to greet Him: “Hail, King of the Jews.” 19 They were striking His head with a reed, spitting in His face, and kneeling down, they were worshiping Him. 20 When they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him. 21 And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming from the field, to carry His cross. 22 And they brought Him to the place called Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23 And they were giving Him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but He did not accept it. 24 And they crucified Him. They divided His garments, casting lots for them, to decide who would take what. 25 It was the third hour when they crucified Him. 26 The inscription of His condemnation was written: “The King of the Jews”. 27 And with Him they crucified two robbers, one on the right side and the other on the left. 28 And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “And He was numbered with the lawless.” 29 And those passing by were insulting Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who tear down the temple and build it in three days. 30 Save Yourself and come down from the cross.” 31 Likewise the chief priests, together with the scribes, were mocking among themselves and saying, “He saved others, He cannot save Himself. 32 He says that He is the Christ, the King of Israel. let Him now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe Him.” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him. 33 And when the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani,” which is translated, “My God, My God, why did You forsake Me” (Ps. 22:1). 35 And some of those standing nearby, when they heard it, were saying, “Look, He is calling Elijah.” 36 One ran ahead, soaked a sponge in vinegar, and putting it on a reed, gave it to Jesus to drink. And he was saying, “Leave Him alone, let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down from the cross.” 37 Jesus let out a loud cry and gave up His spirit. 38 And the curtain of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. 39 The centurion who was standing there, seeing how Jesus cried out and gave up His spirit, said, “This Man truly was the Son of God”. 40 There were also women there, watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and also Salome, 41 They, when He was in Galilee, followed Him and served Him. And there were also many other women who had come up with Him to Jerusalem. 42 When evening came, because it was the day of preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea came, who was a respectable man, a member of the Jews’ council, and he himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. he dared to go in to Pilate and ask for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate was amazed that He was already dead, and calling the centurion, he asked him, “Did He really die so soon?” 45 And when he confirmed that fact from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 He bought linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb that had been cut into the rock. And he rolled a stone in front of the door of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joses saw the place where He was laid.
