Mark 15:5

But Jesus answered nothing further, so that Pilate was greatly amazed.

Christ’s silence was astonishing to Pilate, because it went beyond ordinary human behavior. An accused person usually tries to defend himself, justify himself, or ask for mercy, but Jesus does not fear, does not plead, and does not argue. His peaceful silence bears witness to inner authority and complete obedience to the Father’s will. In the face of false accusations, the Lord remains unshaken, because He had entrusted His case to the righteous Judge. In this silence the prophetic image is fulfilled: as a lamb is silent before the one who slaughters it, so He did not open His mouth (Isaiah 53:7). Christ was silent before the unjust judgment of men, so that by His voluntary sacrifice He might grant salvation to humanity, and His shed blood might testify to our justification and salvation.
