Yet what people wrote as an accusation and a mockery, in God’s providence became a public proclamation of the truth: He truly is the King of the Jews. His kingdom was not in earthly power or political rebellion, but in humility, sacrifice, and saving love. People lifted Him up on the cross as one defeated, but it was precisely on the cross that the deepest mystery of His royal authority was revealed: He was conquering sin and death by His death. That inscription on the cross became a silent yet powerful testimony for all passersby: the rejected Jesus did not lose His kingdom, but through His cross He was revealed as the promised Messiah and the true King.
