Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joses saw the place where Jesus’ body was laid. This detail is an important testimony, because they were not only present at the crucifixion, but also saw the exact location of the tomb. Their love was still bound to the Lord, even though at that moment they saw only death, burial, and silence. By God’s providence they become witnesses of the burial and, as we will see next, of the empty tomb. This final verse holds the weight of silent waiting: Christ’s body is in the tomb, those who love Him are watching from a distance, but God’s plan has not ended.
