And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “And He was numbered with the lawless.”
This verse reveals that even the most shameful detail of Christ’s crucifixion was within the fulfillment of the prophetic word. The phrase “was numbered with the lawless” shows the depth of His humility and humiliation: He was not only crucified, but in the eyes of people He was identified with criminals. Yet Christ bore that disgrace not because of His own sin, but willingly, so that the lawless might be justified through Him and be accepted before God. Thus the word of the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled: “He gave His life over to death and was numbered with the lawless” (Isaiah 53:12). Scripture confirms that the cross was not an accidental tragedy, but God’s previously proclaimed way of salvation.
