And the curtain of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
The tearing of the temple curtain was a great sign given by God. The curtain separated the Most Holy Place and showed that, under the order of the old covenant, the way into God’s immediate presence had not yet been opened before everyone. At the moment of Christ’s death it was torn from top to bottom, showing that God Himself is opening that way. No longer is a sinner’s approach to God based on animal sacrifices, but it is based on Christ’s Holy blood. This is the sign of the victory of the cross: entrance to the Father was opened for all who come by faith through the Son.
