They, when He was in Galilee, followed Him and served Him. And there were also many other women who had come up with Him to Jerusalem.
This verse reveals the long-standing faithfulness of those women. They did not appear only at the moment of the cross, but had followed Christ from Galilee and had served Him. Their service may not have seemed great to the ordinary eye, but the Gospel keeps it in remembrance. In Christ’s kingdom, humble service has great value. They came with Him as far as Jerusalem, and now they are witnesses of His death. Later they will also become important witnesses of the tomb and of the news of the resurrection. God often entrusts the testimony of great events to those who follow Him with humility and faithfulness.
