For many will come in My name and say, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray.
Christ warns about false messiahs and self-appointed saviors. To come “in My name” means either to misuse Christ’s name or to claim His authority for themselves. The words “I am” show a self-proclaimed messianic claim. People, especially in times of disaster and uncertainty, seek quick deliverance, and for that reason they can easily be deceived by those who promise safety without true repentance and faith toward God. The Lord does not leave His disciples unprepared; He announces the danger beforehand so that they will not confuse false voices with His voice.
