Christ instructs them to pray even about circumstances that may seem natural or external. Fleeing in winter would be more difficult because of the cold, the roads, and the conditions. This shows that God’s people can and must pray also for the timing and practical aspects of their trials. God rules not only over great historical events, but also over the weather, the roads, and the bodily weaknesses of man. Prayer places the believer under God’s care and reminds him that even in days of judgment the Lord can, with mercy, moderate the trials of His people.
