It will be like a situation where a man, going to another country, leaves his house and gives authority to his servants, to each one his work, and commands the doorkeeper also to stay awake.
The Lord describes the period of His absence by the example of a householder’s journey. He leaves His servants not in idleness, but in responsible service. Each one is given his work, which shows that in the kingdom of God every believer has a duty entrusted to him. The doorkeeper’s watchfulness symbolizes the vigilance of the whole church. From Christ’s ascension until His return is the servants’ time; they must labor, wait, and keep the Lord’s house with faithfulness.
