And when they take you to court to hand you over, do not worry beforehand and do not think about what you should say, but whatever is given to you in that hour, speak that, because it is not you who will speak, but the Holy Spirit.
Christ promises the help of the Holy Spirit in the hour of persecution. This does not encourage laziness or neglect of Holy Scripture, but frees from fear when the believer stands before pressure and judgment. The Lord does not say that the disciples will always be spared from suffering, but that they will not be alone in their testimony. The Holy Spirit will give them the right words, courage, and wisdom at the moment when human strength may grow weak. This word is a great comfort for all who, for the name of Christ, are called to give an answer. God does not send His servants empty-handed, but strengthens them by His Spirit.
