Mark 13:24

“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light.

Here the discourse moves to great cosmic images. The darkening of the sun and the moon giving no light in Holy Scripture often speak of judgment, the fall of kingdoms, and God’s great intervention. At the same time, these words also look to the last day, when the whole order of the created world will be shaken before the glorious appearing of the Son of Man. The Lord shows that His coming is not only an event taking place within human history, but a revelation of cosmic significance. Even the lights of heaven, which to human eyes seem unshakable and firm, will be darkened before the glorious appearing of Christ and the judgment of God.
