Psalm 9 — Thanksgiving for God’s righteous judgment

1 With my whole heart I will give thanks to You, Lord, and I will tell of all Your wondrous works. 2 In You I will rejoice and exult. I will sing a psalm to Your name, O Most High. 3 When my enemies turned back, they stumbled and perished before Your presence. 4 For You defended my right and my cause, and You sat on the throne like a righteous Judge. 5 You rebuked the nations, You destroyed the wicked, and You wiped out their name forever and ever. 6 The enemies have come to an utter end, they have become everlasting ruins, and You have destroyed their cities, and even their memory has perished. 7 But the Lord reigns forever. He has prepared His throne for judgment. 8 He will judge the world with righteousness and will carry out upright judgment for the justice of the nations. 9 The Lord will be a refuge for the poor, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know Your name will trust in You, because You do not forsake those who seek You, O Lord. 11 Sing psalms to the Lord who dwells in Zion, and proclaim His deeds among the peoples. 12 For the avenger of blood remembers them and does not forget the cry of the poor. 13 Have mercy on me, Lord. see my affliction that comes from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, 14 so that I may recount all Your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion, and rejoice in Your salvation. 15 The Gentiles fell into the pit that they themselves had dug, and their foot was caught in the net that they themselves had hidden. 16 The Lord made Himself known, He carried out judgment. The wicked was caught in the works of his own hands. 17 The wicked will turn back to Sheol, and all the nations that forget God. 18 For the poor will not be forgotten forever, and the hope of the afflicted will not perish forever. 19 Rise up, Lord, let man not prevail. Let the nations be judged before You. 20 Put fear in them, O Lord, let the nations know that they are only men.
