Those who know Your name will trust in You, because You do not forsake those who seek You, O Lord.
Relying on God is connected with knowing Him. The more a person comes to know the Lord’s nature—His faithfulness, holiness, power, and mercy—the more steadfast his trust becomes. “Those who know Your name” are not merely people who have information about God, but those who have learned in their lives to trust Him and know His faithfulness by experience. The promise of the verse is that the Lord does not abandon those who seek Him. This does not mean that the believer will never pass through silence, waiting, or a sense of loneliness. It means that God does not in fact renounce him and does not leave him ultimately. A person’s feelings may change, but the Lord’s faithfulness remains unchanging. This word is also a call to keep seeking God continually—through prayer, reading the Holy Scriptures, and a life of obedience. Seeking God is not only asking for help, but desiring to know, love, and follow Him more deeply.
