Psalm 9:8

He will judge the world with righteousness and will carry out upright judgment for the justice of the nations.

God’s judgment is characterized by righteousness and impartiality. He does not judge with incomplete information, by outward impression, or with human bias, because He fully knows people’s deeds, thoughts, and hearts. “The world” and “the nations” show that His judgment is universal: no people, authority, or individual is outside His rule. This word comforts the oppressed, because God does not overlook the injustice they have suffered and, in His time, carries out a just judgment. At the same time, it warns the sinner that no secret deed will remain undisclosed. This word is opened more fully in the New Testament, where it is said that God will judge the world in righteousness through Jesus Christ (Acts 17:31). Christ is not only the Savior, but also the Judge appointed by God for all people, through whom righteousness will be established finally. For the believer, this verse is a call to repentance, a righteous life, and living with responsibility before God. We must be guided not by people’s changeable evaluations, but by the awareness that the final and flawless judgment belongs to the Lord.
