With my whole heart I will give thanks to You, Lord, and I will tell of all Your wondrous works.
David decides to give thanks to the Lord with his whole heart. This means sincere, complete, and undivided worship. He does not limit himself to an inner feeling, but desires to recount the wondrous works of God. Thanksgiving becomes a testimony. When a believer remembers and tells what the Lord has done, his own faith is strengthened and he encourages others. “All the wondrous works” does not mean that a person can list each one of God’s boundless works, but expresses full devotion in remembering His goodness. In times of difficulty we often focus only on present pain. David teaches us to remember former deliverances and, in their light, to look at the present. Thanksgiving is not a denial of problems. It is a confession of trust that God has acted and continues to act for His people.
