The continuation of Christ’s sermon.

1 Be careful not to do your acts of mercy before people in order to be seen by them, otherwise you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by people. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 3 But you, when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. 4 So that your mercy may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in the secret place, will repay you openly. 5 When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to pray in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets, so that they may be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have already received their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, shut your door, and pray to your Father. And your Father, who sees what is hidden, will reward you openly. 7 When you pray, do not be wordy like the pagans, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. 8 So then, do not be like them, because your Father knows what things you need before you ask Him. 9 Therefore pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be holy, 10 May your kingdom come, may your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 For if you forgive people their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive people their offenses, your Father will not forgive your offenses. 16 And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so that they may appear to people to be fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17 But you, when you are fasting, anoint your head and wash your face. 18 So that you may not appear to people as one who is fasting, but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly. 19 Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 The lamp of the body is the eye. So if your eye is clear, your whole body will also be full of light. 23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be in darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how much greater will the darkness be. 24 No one can serve two masters, because either he will hate one and love the other, or he will honor one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. 25 For this reason I tell you: do not worry about your life, what you will eat and what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are? 27 Now which of you, by worrying, can add one more cubit to his height? 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Look at the wild lilies, how they grow: they do not labor, nor do they spin. 29 But I tell you that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not clothed like one of them. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith? 31 Therefore, do not worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek all these things, but your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you in addition. 34 So do not worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow has its own worries. Each day’s troubles are enough on their own.
