Matthew 6:4

So that your mercy may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in the secret place, will repay you openly.

In this saying, Jesus emphasizes that good works and acts of mercy should be done in secret, without show and without expecting people’s praise. When charity is done without outward attention, God, our heavenly Father, sees it and gives His reward. “Will reward openly” means that God, seeing the sincerity of our heart, will value our good works and reward them in His time and in His way. Here Jesus affirms that human praise is nothing compared with the reward God gives. He calls us to do good works not in order to be seen by people, but to please God. Thus, Jesus reminds us that good works should be unnoticed and sincere, because it is God who sees our hearts and gives true recompense.
