And why do you worry about clothing? Look at the wild lilies, how they grow: they do not labor, nor do they spin.
In this passage Jesus uses the wild lilies as an example to show that nature itself grows and develops without making any effort. The lilies do not work and do not worry about their “clothing,” and yet they flourish and are adorned with wonderful beauty that is granted to them by God. Jesus wants us to learn to stop worrying about our clothing and material needs, understanding that God will provide what is necessary for us, just as He does for the flowers of the field. If God shows such care even toward flowers, how much more will He do for us. This word once again emphasizes the idea that we should focus more on our spiritual growth and on a close relationship with God, and then He will meet our material needs.
