Shealtiel was the father of Zerubbabel. 13 Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud. Abiud was the father of Eliakim. Eliakim was the father of Azor. 14 Azor was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Achim. 15 Achim was the father of Eliud. Eliud was the father of Eleazar. Eleazar was the father of Matthan. Matthan was the father of Jacob. 16 Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David to the Babylonian captivity fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian captivity to Christ fourteen generations. 18 The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. His mother, Mary, was betrothed to Joseph. Before they came together, Mary was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being righteous and not wanting to disgrace her, resolved to send her away secretly. 20 While he was thinking about these things, now, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” 21 She will bear a Son, and you will call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 And all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet Isaiah. 23 “Now, the virgin will conceive and bear a Son, and they will call His name Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14), which means “God with us.” 24 Joseph, when he awoke from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took his wife to himself. 25 And he did not know her until she had given birth to her firstborn Son, and he named Him Jesus.
