Matthew 1:4

Hezron was the father of Ram. Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nahshon was the father of Salmon.

This passage continues the line of Jesus Christ’s ancestors, including the patriarchs who lived at the time of the exodus from Egypt and the beginning of the wilderness period. Hezron, of the tribe of Judah, was among the heirs of Abraham’s promise. His son Ram and his grandson Amminadab are mentioned as the generation from which leaders arose among the people of Israel. Amminadab’s son Nahshon was known as the leader of the tribe of Judah in the days of Moses (Numbers 1:7), an example of faith and leadership. And Nahshon’s son Salmon, as we will see next, married Rahab, becoming an important link in the messianic genealogy. This genealogical line shows that God’s plan was continually being fulfilled from generation to generation, passing through the line of Judah to David and Christ.
