Solomon was the father of Rehoboam. Rehoboam was the father of Abijah. Abijah was the father of Asa.
This passage continues David’s royal genealogy, presenting his descendants through whom the messianic line passes through the ages, despite human falls. Solomon, the king known for his wisdom, was the father of Rehoboam, in whose days the kingdom was divided into two parts. Rehoboam’s son Abijah reigned for a short time, preserving the memory of David’s covenant. Abijah’s son Asa is remembered as a godly king who removed the worship of idols and sought to restore the worship of the Lord (2 Chronicles 14:2–5). This verse shows that the messianic genealogy continued its course not by human perfection, but by God’s faithful promise.
