King David was the father of Solomon by Uriah’s wife.
This verse shows not only the genealogical succession, but also the depth of God’s grace. Matthew deliberately mentions “the wife of Uriah,” recalling David’s sin (2 Samuel, chapter 11) and at the same time emphasizing that the chain of salvation also passes through human history wounded by sin. Solomon’s birth, within the story of sin, becomes a testimony to the triumph of grace: God uses imperfect people to carry out His perfect plan. This testifies that among Christ’s ancestors are included not only the righteous, but also those who have been restored through repentance, like David. Thus, the genealogical line is not a list of human perfection, but a story of divine mercy, in which every unworthiness is transformed through grace.
