Christ’s answer to the disciples of John the Baptist. He rebukes Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum.

1 When Jesus finished giving instructions to his twelve disciples, he left there to teach and preach in their cities. 2 And John, being in prison, hearing about the works of Christ, sent his disciples and through them asked Him. 3 Are you the One who was to come, or should we wait for another? 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see.” 5 The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the gospel is preached to the poor. 6 And blessed is the one who will not stumble because of me.” 7 And as they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 Then what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear soft clothes are in royal houses. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he about whom it is written: “now, I am sending my messenger before you, who will prepare your way before you” (Mal. 3:1). 11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is. 12 But from the days of John the Baptist’s appearing until now, the kingdom of heaven is taken by force, and the forceful seize it. 13 For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah, who was to come. 15 Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear. 16 But to whom will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to their friends 17 and saying: «We played the flute for you, and you did not dance. We mourned for you, and you did not grieve». 18 For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon in him”. 19 The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a man who eats and drinks, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” But the wisdom of God was recognized by her children.” 20 Then Jesus began to rebuke the cities in which most of his miracles had been done, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin, woe to you, Bethsaida, because if the miracles that were done among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” 22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who have been lifted up to heaven, will be brought down to hell. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today. 24 But I tell you that for the land of Sodom it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment than for you.” 25 At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and the learned and revealed them to children. 26 Yes, Father, because it pleased you to do so. 27 All things were given to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and the one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, 30 For my yoke is pleasant, and my burden is light.”
