Matthew 11:24

But I tell you that for the land of Sodom it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment than for you.”

With this statement Jesus shows that Capernaum, which had seen the miracles done by Him and had heard the sermons, bore a great responsibility to respond to God’s presence and invitation. The people of Sodom did not have such a privilege—to witness Jesus’ miracles—therefore their sin is regarded as less severe compared to Capernaum’s indifference. Jesus clearly shows that greater divine revelation also requires greater responsibility: when people see God’s presence and do not respond, their judgment becomes more severe.
