The parable of the workers in the vineyard. Christ foretells His sufferings beforehand. The request of the mother of Zebedee’s sons. Christ heals the eyes of two blind men.

1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.” 2 And after agreeing with the workers for one denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 Around the third hour he went out and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. 4 He also said to them, “You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.” 5 So they went. And again, going out at the sixth and the ninth hours, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out again and found others standing idle, and he said to them, “Why have you been standing here idle all day?” 7 They answered, “Because no one hired us.” He said to them, “You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is right.” 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward: “Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last and going to the first.” 9 And those who had been hired at the eleventh hour came, and each one received one denarius. 10 And those hired first also came and thought that they would receive more. But they too each received one denarius. 11 But when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner and said. 12 “These last ones worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us, even though we bore the burden and the heat of the day.” 13 And he answered one of them and said, “Friend, I am not wronging you. Did you not agree with me for one denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go. But I want to pay this last one as much as I paid you. 15 Do I not have the right to do as I wish with what is mine? Or do you look on it with envy because I am good?” 16 So the last will be first, and the first last, because many are called, but few are chosen.” 17 As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them on the way. 18 “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. 19 And he will be handed over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and lifted up on the cross. But on the third day he will rise again.” 20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to Jesus with her sons, bowed down before Him, and asked Him for something. 21 Jesus said to her, “What do you want?” The woman said to Him, “Please say that in Your kingdom one of these two sons of mine may sit at Your right hand, and the other at Your left.” 22 Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am about to be baptized?” They said, “We are able.” 23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, and you will be baptized with the baptism with which I will be baptized, but to sit at my right and at my left is not mine to grant. It will be given to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” 24 When the other ten heard it, they were angry with the two brothers. 25 Jesus called them to himself and said, “You know that the rulers lord it over the nations, and the great ones exercise authority over them. 26 But among you it must not be so, but whoever among you wants to be great must be your servant, 27 And whoever among you wants to be first must be your servant, 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom in place of many.” 29 And as they were leaving Jericho, a great crowd followed them. 30 and now, two blind men were sitting by the roadside. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they began to cry out and say, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David.” 31 But the crowd rebuked them so that they would be silent, but they cried out even more loudly and said, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David.” 32 And Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33 They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” 34 Jesus had compassion on them, touched their eyes, and their eyes were opened at once, and they followed Him.
