Christ commands us to be humble. The parables of the shepherd and the unforgiving servant.

1 At that same hour the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who is greater in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And Jesus called a child to Himself and set him in the midst of the disciples. 3 And he said, “Truly I tell you, unless you repent and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” 5 And whoever receives such a child in my name receives me. 6 And whoever causes one of these little ones who believes in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were sunk to the bottom of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks. For it is necessary that stumbling blocks come, yet woe to the person through whom the stumbling block will come. 8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed than to have two hands and two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the Gehenna of fire. 10 Be careful not to despise one of these little ones, for I tell you, their angels in heaven always see the face of my heavenly Father. 11 For the Son of Man came to save the lost. 12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go to look for the one that has gone astray? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray. 14 In the same way, your heavenly Father does not want any one of these little ones to perish. 15 If your brother sins against you, go and rebuke him when you and he are alone. If he listens to you, then you will have won your brother. 16 But if he does not listen to you, take with you one or two more persons, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be confirmed. (Deut. 19:15) 17 But if he does not listen to them either, tell it to the church. And if he does not listen even to the church, let him be to you like a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I tell you: if two of you on earth agree about one matter, whatever they ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. 20 For where two or three people are gathered in My name, I am there among them.” 21 Then Peter came up to him and said, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how many times should I forgive him, up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not tell you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” 23 For this reason the kingdom of heaven was compared to a king who wanted his servants to give him an account. 24 And when he began to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed ten thousand talents. 25 But since he had nothing to pay, his lord commanded that he be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 And the servant fell facedown to the ground, bowed before him, and said, “Lord, be patient with me, and I will pay you everything.” 27 And the master of that servant had compassion on him, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 And when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He seized him, was choking him, and said, “Pay me what you owe me.” 29 His fellow servant fell down before his feet, pleaded, and said, “Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything.” 30 But he was not willing, but went and threw him into prison until he would pay the debt. 31 When his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved, and they came and reported everything to their lord. 32 Then his lord called him and said, “Wicked servant, I forgave you all your debt, because you pleaded with me. 33 Should you not also have been merciful to your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?” 34 And his lord, becoming angry, handed him over to the torturers until he would repay the whole debt. 35 In the same way My heavenly Father will deal with you, if each of you does not forgive his brother’s offenses from the heart.”
