But he was not willing, but went and threw him into prison until he would pay the debt.
The forgiven servant, seeing the same plea from his fellow servant, not only does not humble himself, but, continuing in his cruelty, refuses mercy and resorts to severe punishment. He throws his fellow servant into prison, in the manner prescribed by law, until the full repayment of the debt. Yet this act, which is outwardly legal, is completely contrary to the spirit of forgiveness by which he himself had just been set free. This is one of the parable’s strongest contrasts: the one who was fully forgiven is not willing to give even time to another. Thus, from the servant’s action it follows that his heart did not change when he was forgiven by the king.
