And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed than to have two hands and two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire.
In this verse Jesus, using strongly vivid language, urges us to remove decisively from our lives everything that drives us toward sin or away from faith, even if it seems necessary, precious, or close to us. For the person who does not renounce ties and influences that cause spiritual harm may lose eternal life. Jesus is not speaking about literal physical amputation, but about cutting off habits, relationships, or patterns of thinking that become a cause of sin, and he shows that true life begins only when a person is ready to sacrifice them, or in other words, to set aside temporary comfort for the salvation of the soul.
